Default Coming back to guild wars and I don't remember anything..

Me and some friends are going to start up guild wars again tomorrow and play through factions. I did nightfall about a year ago co-op style with someone and had a blast with the hero system. I was wondering if I could bring those heroes over to my new factions character instead of using henchmen, and if they would scale down to our level or something.

Is this possible?

Thanks ^^

Only way for a faction character to get heroes is to go through NF campaign, you will get access to them just as your NF character did.

Each character has to unlock his own set of heroes by playing through the appropriate campaign. Once he has them, he can always add them to the party (OK, except PvP), no scaling down takes place.

The character that played Nightfall should have at least some heroes unlocked already. If that character were to travel to Factions, he could add the unlocked heroes anywhere.

A character made in Factions would have to first travel to Nightfall (IE, reach Kaineng city in the Factions campaign) first and would then have to travel to Nightfall, unlock heroes there, and travel back to Factions to continue the Factions campaign.

Each character has to acquire its own heroes. You can't move them from one character to another.

You could take your old NF character (with its heroes) to the Factions campaign. Then you'd probably steamroll the early parts of Factions - but you and your friends might find that very dull.

Alright that sounds cool then. Could we start off in nightfall and unlock maybe 1 hero each then head back to factions without outleveling the first major city after the newbie island? I really liked having a backup hero to play around with. What is the earliest one you unlock in nightfall anyway?

And were assassins ever fixed for pve? I was thinking of trying one out but back when factions first came out I didn't really like my damage output in comparison to a warrior who was much less squishy.

You and/or your friends will probably have access to the Fire Imp summoning stone (type /bonus in chat). If you start in Factions, just having that is probably all you need to let you and your friends steamroll your way off noob island and onto the Canthan mainland.

Once on the mainland you'll be able to go to Nightfall, and IIRC everyone will get Koss, Dunkoro, Melonni and Tahlkora as heroes almost immediately. If you're level 10 by then, you can also go to Eye of the North (if you have it), and immediately get Ogden and Vekk.

If you start your characters in Nightfall, you unlock one hero (Koss) almost immediately. However, the only way to get to Factions without leveling further is to get a ferry to the Consulate Docks and then to Cantha.

Keep in mind that if you start a character in Nightfall you will not be able to do the newbie content in Factions. So your low-level, one-hero NF characters will be in Kaineng City among the level 20 Jade Brotherhood, Am Fah, and Afflicted. You can travel to Shing Jea Island, where the foes are more appropriate to your level, but there will be no quests there for you to do.

If you start your characters in Factions, you will not be able to get heroes until you finish your Shing Jea training and reach the mainland. Again, you will not be able to do the newbie content in Nightfall, but will start with a few quests to get you to the Consulate Docks mission that takes you to the mainland of Elona.

If you want to make an assassin, then you must start in Factions, since that is the only campaign where sin and rit characters can be created.

They are as good as any hero. You outfit the hero yourself.

As Arduin said. All heroes use the same AI, so they are as good as the skills, runes, insignia, and equipment you give them. The differences are in the professions available to start with, and EotN is more limited.

EotN gives you a monk, an ele, and a mesmer without any real effort put into the storyline there, but unlocking any of the others can take considerable effort.

Nightfall gives you two monks, a dervish, and a warrior at arrival, plus your choice of ranger or ele with minimal effort, plus a necromancer and an assassin available with an easy quest each once you reach Consulate Docks. This gives you much more flexibility in building your hero team.

With all that, it isn't worth bothering with EotN just to finish Factions. What you get in Nightfall is more than sufficient. (My first character -- created in Prophecies -- actually got the first three EotN heroes and used them to finish both Prophecies and Factions before going to Nightfall. But using NF heroes would have been easier, since I had no melee hero and no minionmaster. My other characters used the NF heroes.)
